Gyuto Monastery

Gyuto Monastery is one of the most revered Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in India, located in Sidhbari near Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. It serves as the principal monastery of the Gyuto Tantric tradition of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. Established in exile in 1959 after the Tibetan uprising, the monastery was re-established in India under the guidance of Tibetan spiritual leaders.

Gyuto Monastery is especially known for its practice of tantric meditation and its monks’ unique deep overtone chanting, which is considered sacred and spiritually powerful. The monastery complex is beautifully designed with traditional Tibetan architecture, colorful prayer flags, intricate murals, and a large golden statue of Lord Buddha that attracts visitors from around the world.

Surrounded by the majestic Dhauladhar mountains, the peaceful setting enhances the spiritual atmosphere of the monastery. Visitors can attend prayer sessions, explore the serene campus, and learn about Tibetan culture and philosophy. The monastery also plays a vital role in preserving ancient Buddhist teachings and rituals.
